Almost every AI voice platform prices by the minute — but what a “minute” includes varies wildly, and that is where budgets go wrong. This is a plain-language guide to what AI calling actually costs in India in 2026 and how to compare platforms honestly.
What a per-minute price has to cover
Every live AI call consumes four metered services at once:
- Telephony — the actual phone call on an Indian number
- Speech-to-text — real-time transcription of the caller
- LLM tokens — the model deciding every reply
- Text-to-speech — generating the agent’s voice
Roughly, those raw components add up to ₹2–3 per minute at Indian rates. A platform charging ₹4–5/min all-inclusive is pricing honestly; a platform advertising “₹1/min” is either excluding telephony and AI usage (you pay those separately, via your own keys) or planning to make it up elsewhere.
The two pricing models you'll meet
1. All-inclusive per-minute — one rate covers everything. Predictable, simple to budget, no surprise API bills. This is Veytrix’s default: ₹5/min on Starter, ₹4.5 on Growth, ₹4 on Enterprise for two-way calls, and ₹1.5/min for one-way announcements, with a prepaid wallet so spend can never run away.
2. Bring-your-own-keys (BYOK) — you pay the platform a smaller fee and bring your own Plivo/OpenAI/etc. accounts. More control and potentially cheaper at very high volume, but you now manage four vendor bills and rate limits yourself. (Veytrix supports this model too for enterprises that want it.)
Hidden costs to check before you sign
- Billing increments — per-second vs. rounded-up minutes changes real cost by 15–30%.
- Ring time — good platforms bill from pickup, not from dial. Ask.
- No-answer calls — should cost you nothing or almost nothing.
- Number rental & DLT — Indian numbers carry monthly rental and DLT registration; check who pays.
- Platform/seat fees — some tools add per-seat charges on top of usage.
- Concurrency caps — a cheap rate is worthless if you can only run one call at a time.
A realistic budget example
Say a recruitment team screens 1,000 candidates a month, averaging 3 minutes per answered call with a 60% pickup rate:
- 600 answered calls × 3 min = 1,800 minutes
- At ₹5/min →₹9,000/month (Starter-tier rate)
- Per screened candidate: ₹15 — with transcript, summary and rating included
The same workload done manually needs roughly two full-time telecallers — several times the cost, with slower turnaround and no structured data.
How to compare platforms in one afternoon
- Ask for the all-in effective rate: total monthly bill ÷ answered-call minutes.
- Confirm billing starts at pickup and how increments round.
- Run the same 10 test calls on each platform and compare transcripts and latency.
- Check Indian-language quality if your audience needs it — this separates platforms fast.
